Part Five: The Reward of Allegiance

Why Staying Loyal to Jesus is Always Worth It

“And everyone who has left houses or brothers or sisters or father or mother or children or fields because of my name will receive a hundred times more and will inherit eternal life.” Matthew 19:29 (CSB)

Welcome Back

We’ve spent the last four weeks talking about allegiance to the King — what it means, what it costs, and how it looks in a culture that has left God. I can’t even put into words how deeply this lesson has stirred me. It’s made me more aware of God’s nearness and more sensitive to His refining work in my heart.

If I’m being personal, I find myself daily asking the Lord for a greater reverence for Him. And in that asking, His light continues to expose what still needs surrender. Whew — the process of sanctification is no small thing!

We’ve talked about obedience when it feels like rebellion, loyalty in a land of compromise, and resisting the pull of “other gods.” And here’s where it lands for me: Lord, I want my heart to be an altar of worship for You. I pledge allegiance to You, the King of Kings.

In Matthew 19, Jesus promises that those who surrender for His name’s sake will inherit eternal life. My God — what a gift! Thank You for choosing me. Thank You for letting me choose You back. This is why it’s so important to make the Word of God personal: “Your word I have hidden in my heart, that I might not sin against You” (Psalm 119:11).

But here’s the good news as we close this series: allegiance doesn’t end with loss. Allegiance ends with reward.

Let’s go deeper. My prayer is that the eyes of your heart would be open, that the lies of the enemy would be exposed, and that these words wouldn’t just fill your mind with knowledge, but transform your heart by the power of the Holy Spirit.

The Reward of Presence

Remember God’s promise to Jeremiah in chapter 15: “You will stand in My presence.”

That’s the first reward of allegiance — not applause, not acceptance, not the approval of the crowd, but the presence of God Himself.

When others turn away, He leans in. When people dismiss you, He draws you near. Allegiance may cost you people, but it secures you His presence — and that reward is worth more than anything else.

The Reward of Purpose

Jesus said in Matthew 19:29 that those who give things up for His name’s sake will receive back more. Loyalty to God doesn’t leave you empty-handed — it roots you in eternal purpose.

Think about it: every sacrifice becomes seed. Every “no” to culture becomes a “yes” to the Kingdom. And the return on that investment is immeasurable.

  •  Allegiance may cost you comfort, but it gives you Kingdom significance.

The Reward of the Crown

Paul knew this well. At the end of his life, he could look back and say:

“I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith. There is reserved for me the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous Judge, will give me on that day” (2 Timothy 4:7–8).

Allegiance may not earn you trophies here, but it does secure a crown there.

  • Allegiance may cost you now, but it crowns you later.

Making It Practical

Here’s the truth: the reward of allegiance isn’t always flashy here on earth. Sometimes it looks like peace that makes no sense. Sometimes it looks like strength when you should be crumbling. Sometimes it looks like hope that outlasts the trial.

And ultimately, it looks like eternal life with Christ — the greatest reward of all.

So, don’t be fooled into thinking loyalty to Jesus is wasted. Nothing you lay down for Him is ever lost. He sees it. He honors it. He multiplies it.

Here’s the Bottom Line

Pledging allegiance to the King doesn’t mean you’ll always be celebrated. Sometimes it means you’ll stand alone. But standing alone with Christ is better than blending in without Him.

This is the fine print: allegiance costs you something — but it rewards you with everything.

Prayer

Lord, thank You that allegiance to You is never wasted. Strengthen me when I grow weary, and remind me that You see, You reward, and You honor those who stay loyal. Help me fix my eyes on the eternal prize, not the temporary applause of people. Anchor my heart in Your presence, root me in Your purpose, and keep me running toward the crown.

In Jesus’ name, Amen.
